Windsor Knew Him As More Than Its Mailman

The 73-year-old man is remembered by neighbors for his kindness on Colton Street.

WINDSOR, CT — Robert "Bob" Plunge delivered mail in Windsor for more than 30 years. To state Rep. Maryam Khan, he was also the neighbor who gave her children rides, handled unwanted bugs in the house and saved newspaper clippings whenever she appeared in the news.

Plunge, a lifelong Windsor resident, died Sept. 28 at age 73, according to his obituary published by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home.

In a Facebook tribute, Khan remembered her next-door neighbor as a familiar presence on Colton Street, often sitting on his steps and greeting people passing by.

"But to me, Bob was simply my next door neighbor," Khan wrote.

"He was usually seen sitting out on his steps, greeting neighbors and visitors with a smile," she wrote. "Bob exemplified what it meant to be a good neighbor."

Khan said Plunge would be missed on Colton Street and throughout the Deerfield community, where people knew him as their mail carrier and neighbor.
