Press Release from Laura Soll-Broxterman, Public Relations, 860-688-4499:
WINDSOR, CONN., July 6, 2011 – A Windsor, Conn. synagogue is opening its doors to welcome a small church congregation that has been seeking a place to worship. Beginning in July, Congregation Beth Ahm – a 60-year-old synagogue with members from throughout Greater Hartford – will provide space for Hope Tabernacle Apostolic Church to hold weekly worship and education sessions. The synagogue is located on 362 Palisado Ave. in Windsor, Conn. and is led by Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz, a well-known member of the region’s religious community for more than 20 years.
“Congregation Beth Ahm’s space will be used by the church only when there are no synagogue services, school hours or social programs,” explains Marcia Heneson, a member of the Executive Committee of Congregation Beth Ahm. “Church members previously gathered at Wilson Congregational Church in Windsor, but had to leave when that building closed. Pastor Linford Cockings then asked us whether his congregants could hold their services and programs in our building.”

“Our synagogue is warm and friendly and busier than ever; we even welcome interfaith families where one spouse is Jewish and the other is not,” adds Heneson. “We like the idea of one faith-based organization helping another, and look forward to hosting the congregation in our ‘home’.”
Congregation Beth Ahm welcomes Jewish and Interfaith families from throughout Greater Hartford, including Bloomfield, East Windsor, West Hartford, Enfield, Ellington, East Granby, Granby, Manchester, Simsbury, South Windsor, Suffield, Vernon, Windsor, and Windsor Locks. It was created by 16 families in 1951 and initially was known as The Jewish Community of Greater Windsor. In September 1960, it opened its doors in a newly built synagogue on 362 Palisado Avenue. Today, the congregation’s afterschool religious school offers small classroom education for children as young as age 4 – registration is now open for the Fall.
