Windsor Historical Society

Join leading Benjamin Franklin scholar George Boudreau, PhD, on July 21, 6:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. at Windsor Historical Society for a look into how the “First American” worked to better his community and himself. 
 
The program will focus on the many ways Franklin sought to transform the world around him: creating America’s first public library, first non-sectarian college, first public hospital, and his numerous scientific inquiries. It will contemplate how this commitment for public good led to his leadership in the American Revolution and in the new nation it created. 
 
“Benjamin Franklin’s life, ideas, and legacy offer an outstanding lens through which to view early American history and culture,” says historian George Boudreau. “His words gave meaning to the lives of colonists who were becoming Americans. His inventions reflected the ideas and needs of his fellow citizens. His actions ensured the development of colonial society, the creation of the American republic, and its security under the Constitution.” 
 
A Philadelphia resident, George Boudreau has published multiple books on early America, held fellowships at the Library Company of Philadelphia and the American Philosophical Society (both founded by Franklin), the David Library of the American Revolution, the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and Winterthur Museum, and created a popular teacher training program on Franklin through the National Endowment for the Humanities.
