Census Data Reflects An Increasingly Diverse Windsor
Official census numbers were recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Recently-released official census results show that Windsor has seen minimal growth in terms of population over the last decade, but the demographics of its population have changed over time.
There were 29,044 people counted in Windsor, an increase of 763 from the 2000 census. While the growth in numbers does not indicate a significant boom in population, the town's ethnic diversity has experienced a change over the past ten years.
The biggest shift in Windsor's ethnic makeup is the numbers of white and black or African American residents. 2000 census numbers show Windsor as having just over 18,000 white residents, while that number fell to under 16,000 by 2010. In 2010, the census found that Windsor currently has nearly 10,000 black or African American residents, which is an increase from 7,748 in 2000.

Windsor's .9-percent growth between 2000-10 is far smaller than the 4 percent population growth over the same period of time. Shifts in the town's demographics are in line with population growth throughout Connecticut, as the state's white population shrunk, and numbers of black, Latino and Asian residents.
