Concert Raises Money for New Windsor High School Scholarship

WINDSOR, Conn. – July 30, 2026 – Class of 2026 Windsor High School (WHS) senior Emily Romero-Lewis raised more than $500 at her inaugural Build Your Blessings scholarship concert held July 25 at The Bean at 226 in Windsor. The concert featured performances by students and alumni of WHS’s celebrated choral and music departments who came together to support Romero-Lewis in her efforts to create an annual music scholarship for future WHS graduates. Performers included Emily Romero-Lewis, Sydell Asiedu, Emmanuel D'Oleo, Jayden Dailey, Jade Robinson, Danny Overbaugh, Lucas Bembry, Maget-Ami Niang, Isabella Perez-Valle, Ryan Levin, Josiah Sosa and Maya White.

Deeply passionate for and gifted in music, Romero-Lewis won the award for Most Outstanding Solo Vocalist at the 2025 Music in the Parks festival in New Jersey. She performed at the national music festival with the esteemed WHS Teens of Praise Gospel Choir in which she was a four-year member and student leader. The choir placed first in each category that year.

Romero-Lewis launched Build Your Blessings in June to create opportunities for students to share their musical talents. She also aims to encourage students to find paths toward their dreams by increasing awareness of both the existence and importance of applying to college scholarships.

“Windsor showed me what community looks like, and I want to be an empowering individual that makes an impact within it,” says Romero-Lewis. “I hope through the Build Your Blessings Scholarship, fellow students will be able to get a feel for how scholarships work and gain invaluable knowledge towards their education and aid towards their college finances.”

Through donations received at her first scholarship concert, she happily surpassed her initial fundraising goal of $500. “I’m so grateful for everyone’s support and generosity,” says Romero-Lewis. “We were able to raise $560. All of it to be granted to a rising WHS senior. If we could raise it to $1,000, that would make a real dent into college tuition costs.” Romero-Lewis is planning future scholarship concerts in Boston where she will attend Boston University in the fall.

“As an educator, it is such a beautiful thing to witness students banding together to use their talents and knowledge to help future students,” says WHS music instructor Gary Nolan. “These young people are truly using their powers for good. I am proud to witness their organization and impact on their local community.”
