Jennifer Carty Of Windsor Awarded Human Resources Scholarship

Jennifer Carty of Windsor was recently selected as the recipient of the Andy Thiede HR Certification Scholarship. The scholarship was created by Andy Thiede, an HR professional from Berlin, CT, with a passion for helping others in the HR field.

Jen was selected based on her strong desire to further her career in the HR industry, and plans to use the scholarship to test for the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification, the senior-most HR certification for those who have demonstrated a mastery of the strategic and policy-making aspects of HR management. The SPHR credential is designed for big-picture thinkers responsible for planning rather than implementing HR policy.

Jen, who is currently in transition seeking her next HR career position stated, “attaining my SPHR certification will prove to employers that I have mastered the principles of HR management and am staying current in my profession.”

She earned her SHRM-SCP certification this past February when she had an HR position with a hospitality organization, and was laid off soon thereafter when COVID-19 devastated that industry. Jen is making the most of this time by further enhancing her professional development, attending webinars and online trainings. She recently completed the SHRM Foundation’s Employing Abilities @Work certificate, and is an active volunteer on the Human Resources Association of Central Connecticut (HRACC) Certification Committee.

Upon receiving the scholarship from Andy Thiede, Jen stated “I am honored to be selected as the recipient of the Andy Thiede Certification Scholarship. I am committed to the Human Resources field, and one step closer to becoming SPHR certified. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope to be able to help other HR professionals achieve their certification goals just as you have helped me.”

Jen is a member of Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), holds a MS in Communications and Information Management from Bay Path University, and has 10 years’ experience in HR. She lives in Windsor with her husband and young son. She is scheduled to test for her SPHR certification later this year.

This is the 5th consecutive year of the Andy Thiede Scholarship, and more than $4,500 has been awarded to HR professionals throughout Connecticut.
