Man Charged With 2014 Windsor Armed Robbery

The Massachusetts man confessed to eight such robberies over two states, according to police.

SUFFIELD, CT - A Massachusetts man was served with a warrant Monday in connection with a robbery at a Suffield convenience store more than two years ago, and was charged Tuesday with two other robberies in nearby towns.

Jeffrey Nentwig, 40, of Chicopee, Mass., was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and illegal use of a facsimile firearm in connection with the Jan. 29, 2014 robbery.

Capt. Richard Brown said Nentwig is accused of entering the Valero/Dunkin Donuts at 801 Thompsonville Road and brandishing a facsimile firearm after demanding cash. Approximately $364 in cash was taken from the businesses.

Enfield police served a warrant Tuesday on Nentwig, charging him with an armed robbery at a liquor store in that town.

In that case, Nentwig was charged with first-degree robbery with a dangerous instrument, carrying a dangerous weapon, second-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said on Jan. 21, 2014, police received a holdup alarm from Angie's State Line Package Store, then located at 11 Enfield Street. The owner told officers a man dressed all in black, including gloves and a mask, brandished a handgun and held out a bag to be filled with money.

The woman and her husband emptied the cash register, showed the bandit the drawers were empty, and watched him flee and jump into a car bearing Massachusetts plates, Sferrazza said.

Enfield detectives conducted an investigation involving other area police agencies, and discovered Chicopee was investigating five similar holdups. In the course of the investigation, Nentwig was identified and brought in for an interview, during which he confessed to eight robberies, including the Enfield case, Sferrazza said.

A warrant for his arrest was approved in connection with the Enfield case, but he has been incarcerated elsewhere since that time. On Tuesday, he was brought to Enfield Superior Court and served with the Enfield warrant, Sferrazza said.

He was also charged this week in connection with a Jan. 31, 2014 holdup in Windsor. No details were immediately available on that case.

Nentwig is currently being held at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield, the chief added.
