Obituary: Rev. David J. Baranowski, 74, of Windsor

Father David's last two assignments were at St. Junipero Serra Parish in South Windsor and St. Damien of Molokai Parish in Windsor.

Rev. David J. Baranowski, 74, of Windsor, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 25, 2022. Born October 19th, 1947 in New Britain, son of the late Joseph J. and Mary Ann (Parzych) Baranowski, he was educated in the New Britain school system, graduating from New Britain Senior High School, Class of 1965. Following graduation, Father entered Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT and studied Philosophy and Theology at Saint Mary Seminary in Baltimore, MD.

Having completed his seminary formation, Fr. Baranowski was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend John F. Whealon, S.T.L., then Archbishop of Hartford, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford on May 26, 1973. Father’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford. He then became a faculty member at South Catholic High School for five years before serving as Parochial Vicar at Saint James Church in Manchester.

Father would later serve at the following churches, Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Unionville, Saint Barnabas in North Haven, Saint Stephen in Hamden, St. Rose in New Haven. Father also served as Chaplain at Saint Thomas More Chapel at Yale University in New Haven. In 2005, Father was named the Director of the Office of Divine Worship in addition to his duties at Saint Stephen in Hamden. In 2006, he became the Pastor at St. James Parish in Rocky Hill and in 2015 was appointed Dean of the Suburban Hartford Deanery. Father David’s last two assignments were at St. Junipero Serra Parish in South Windsor and St. Damien of Molokai Parish in Windsor.

Fr. Baranowski is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Serbin of Southington.

Friends may call at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, St. James Church, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill, on Thursday (June 30) from 9:00 – 10:45am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am in St. James Church by the Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, S.T.D., Archbishop of Hartford as the Principal Celebrant. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glastonbury Abbey, 16 Hull Street, Hingham, MA 02043.
