Sage Park Middle School Hosts Young Men of Color Leadership Events

Events Organized to Celebrate Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month, Sage Park Middle School hosted a series of Young Men of Color Leadership Events on February 11 -12, 2016. The students involved were nominated by their teachers based on their leadership qualities they display around the school.


Special guest A’Ric Jackson provided mentor training to fifty male students of color in the library. A’Ric Jackson’s mission is to teach, inspire, and encourage all those who hear him and to challenge people to pursue their goals and dreams.

A Black History Month Assembly also took place in the auditorium. A’Ric Jackson and Iran Nazario served as speakers at the assembly and shared stories about reflecting on the past but looking toward the future. The Sage Park Choir, Jazz Ensemble, and Step Drill also performed.

Also, a Panel Discussion including community members spoke to the students and answered young men’s questions. The panel members included Mr. Arthur Miller, Mr. Omar Wilson, Mr. Ophir Bullock, Mr. Deonte Vinson, Mr. Marco Romero, Mr. Edward Arrington, Mr. Jimmy McMikle.
