Sage Park Middle School Ranked Highest Connecticut Public Middle School by NCTE for Student Literary Magazine
Equus 2015 Receives Superior Recognition in the 2015 NCTE Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines
Sage Park Middle School serves as the highest ranked public Connecticut Middle School to receive a Superior recognition in the 2015 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines for Equus 2015. This student literary magazine is in its fourth year and is written, illustrated, and designed annually by Sage Park Middle School students. Equus 2015 is organized by the direction of faculty advisor Shirley Cowles and student editors including Gwyneth Bartolome, Lauren Bernstein, Hannah Birch, Jose Nieves III, Erin Howe, Morgan Looby, Jo-Lee Nelson.
NCTE’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines (PRESLM) recognizes students, teachers, and schools for producing excellent literary magazines. The program’s mission is to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines and seek excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production. Participation in the program serves as an inducement for improving the quality of school literary magazines. Judges evaluate and rank middle school, junior high, and high school literary magazines.
The student literary magazine program is open to all senior high, junior high, and middle schools throughout the United States, Canada, Virgin Islands, and to American schools abroad. Only one entry may be submitted per school. In cases where a school publishes more than one magazine or more than one issue per year, a selection committee should be formed at the school to select the best entry. District wide magazines produced by student staff are eligible if such magazines are developed in a district that does not have individual school literary magazines.
