Windsor Armed Robber Accused Of 2 Other Robberies

A Coventry man accused in an armed robbery threatened the clerk's life and allegedly robbed two other convenience stores.

WINDSOR, CT - A Coventry man who robbed a local gas station also robbed two other convenience stores in recent days, according to a Journal-Inquirer report. He also allegedly threatened the clerk's life in the Windsor incident, saying that he would shoot her unless she gave him everything in the cash register.

The robbery took place Thursday at Jay's Mobil, 680 Poquonock Ave., at around 3:30 a.m. The suspect is also accused of robbing two Xtra Mart convenience stores in Hartford last week.

Police identified the suspect as Robert Shepard, Jr., 41. He was charged with first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, third-degree larceny, engaging an officer in pursuit, reckless driving and criminal impersonation.

Shepard has several other pending cases against him along with 17 prior convictions in Connecticut.

His bond was set at $250,000. Shepard's attorney requested the bond be reduced to $100,000, but the judge at an Enfield Superior Court arraignment denied the request, the Journal-Inquirer reported.

In the Windsor incident, police spoke with a female clerk at the Mobil station who stated that a white male entered the store and demanded cash while implying that he was armed. The clerk fought with the suspect who fled the store and got into a tan Toyota Camry with no license plate and fled south on I-91.

Police caught Shepard in Hartford after he crashed his vehicle and attempted to flee.
