Windsor High School Teams Up With Windsor Historical Society to Create World War II Exhibit
Exhibit includes artifacts, photos, and writing organized by Windsor High students taking Military History
Windsor High School has teamed up with the Windsor Historical Society to create a World War II exhibit including artifacts, photos, and writing. Students taking Nancy Crilly-Kirk’s Military History class organized the exhibit, which is located in the lobby of the school through mid-January.
Artifacts from the Historical Society include a German soldier’s field hat and the Navy dress hat owned by William Best, the first African-American police officer in Windsor. There is also a photograph of his Robert T. Silliman’s Bomb Wing serving in North Africa during the war. An Army Air Corps trunk including a first aid kit, confidential orders, a microphone, and flight engineer calculations, is also on display.
Christina Vida, the Curator for Collections and Interpretation at the Windsor Historical Society, visited the high school class to explain the artifacts. Students researched various topics, such as the Battles of the Bulge and Okinawa and provided illustrations and captions for the exhibit.
