WINDSOR, CT — The Windsor community is reeling after a member of the high school football team collapsed during practice Tuesday, then died at a hospital.
In a message sent to the school community by Windsor Public Schools, superintendent Terrell Hill indicated the player, Elijah-Jay Mariano Rivera, lost consciousness on the field, and CPR was performed by EMTs and Windsor police. He was taken with his parents to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, but was unable to be revived.
Hill said Rivera, listed as a junior on the Warriors' roster, "was not engaged in any football drills or tackling" at the time of his collapse.
