MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Windsor man is accused of assaulting a Cromwell police officer while attempting to escape from police custody at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown.
Middletown Police responded to the hospital shortly after midnight on April 1 to assist an officer who was involved in a fight, according to the police report.

Parrish allegedly punched the Cromwell officer in the face, which caused the officer to momentarily black out. The officer also received an open bloody laceration and red contusion to the left temple along with blurred vision, numbness to the mouth and jaw, dizziness and a severed headache, according to police.
Through investigation, including a review of the hospital’s surveillance video, Middletown Police said while waiting for a medical assessment, Parrish was escorted to the bathroom and unhandcuffed.

After using the facility, police said Parrish began faking a medical ailment to avoid being handcuffed again. While the officer attempted to verify that Parrish was in good health, Parrish took the opportunity to punch the officer in the face, according to police.
While the officer was staggering backwards, Parrish attempted to escape out the rear doorway but it was locked and he was again restrained.
Parrish was arrested on charges of assault on a police officer, attempt to escape from custody and breach of peace. He was held on a $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court later that day.
