
Eleanor (Shepard) Nelson, 94, of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Percy H. Nelson, Jr., peacefully passed away on August 14, 2017 at the Hebrew Home in West Hartford.
She was born in Hartford on June 29, 1923, daughter of the late Jack Shepard, Sr. and Mamie (Simmons) Shepard. Eleanor grew up in Hartford and later moved to Windsor where she graduated from Windsor High School. She married her husband Percy in 1941 and the couple was blessed with two children.
Eleanor was a devoted mother to her children while they were growing up and also worked part time at G Fox department store in Hartford. When the children were grown, she began working at Ensign & Bickford as a Lab Technician for over 20 years.

Eleanor was an active parishioner of St. Monica Episcopal church where she was a member of the women’s group and hosted social dinners and fellowship gatherings. In addition to her devotion to her children and grandchildren, Eleanor especially loved entertaining in her home.
She enjoyed extensive travel and was particularly fond of Bermuda where she could take pleasure in her love of the beach and swimming. She will be remembered for her social, outgoing, ‘happy-go-lucky’ personality, her high expectations of others, and her sense of style.

Eleanor leaves behind her children, Victor H. Nelson Sr. of Highland Springs, VA and Cheryl L. Stewart and her husband Thomas C. Stewart, Sr. of Hartford; four grandchildren, Thomas Stewart, Jr., Victor H. Nelson, Jr., Troy C. Stewart, and Tyrone C. Stewart, Sr. She leaves behind nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a special cousin Shirley Davis Freeman, her dear friend Louise Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Jack Shepard Jr., and daughter-in-law Patty Nelson.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to services from 10 -11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
