Windsor Obituary: Ernest Lewis, Jr., 85

Condolences to his family and friends.

Ernest Palmer Lewis, Jr., 85, of Vernon, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, May, 7 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. The world has lost a man known for honesty, integrity and most of all his passionate love of family.

He is survived by his beloved high school sweetheart, his wife of 63 years, Kathleen "Kay" (Dakin) Lewis. He was a man of high intelligence but simple needs. Give him a cheeseburger by the ocean in Maine and he was delighted.

He was born on November 1, 1930 in Windsor. He was a graduate of Windsor High School and Trinity College. He taught honors Biology and Chemistry in Windsor, Wethersfield and lastly Manchester High School where he was department head and awarded "Teacher of the Year". His students loved his tough but humorous style. He was also a professor at Manchester Community College. He was a devoted member of St. Bernard's Church in Rockville.

His most lasting legacy was his large family whom he adored. In his "biology" world he was the nucleus, the powerhouse that was central to all.

In addition to his wife he leaves behind daughters Kathleen Plante, Jane Stanton and her husband Paul, Lori Klar and her husband John, Joanne Cerreto and her husband Barry, his son Christopher Lewis and his wife Karen. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren (with two more on the way). He will be truly missed but will continue to be our guardian from above forever. . .
