Windsor Obituary: Frances Garvan, 87

Condolences to her family and friends.

Frances P. Garvan, 87, of Manchester, beloved wife of 60 years to the late John F. Garvan, passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Born September 17, 1930 in Poquonock, daughter of the late Alexander and Amelia (Krips) Plunge, she had lived in Windsor before moving to Manchester 33 years ago. Frances was a member of St. Maurice Parish, Bolton and prior to that St. Joseph and St. Gertrude Churches, both in Windsor. She was a devoted and faithful catholic all her life and was very active in all three church choirs.

Throughout her life, Frances enjoyed crafting, sewing, cooking, entertaining, playing cards, watching the UConn Women’s Basketball games and spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband John enjoyed many winters in Florida.

She is survived by her two sons, James Garvan and his wife, Karen, of Windsor; Steven Garvan and his wife, Caren, of North Truro, MA; three grandchildren, Caitlyn, Justin and Kristen Garvan; a sister-in-law, Beverly Garvan of Windsor; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Frances was the youngest of nine children and all eight of her siblings had predeceased her.

Her family would like to extend special thanks to Frances’ friends, neighbors and caregivers.

Her family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Poquonock section of Windsor. Family and friends may gather Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 9:45 AM, at Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 AM, at St. Joseph Church, Poquonock. Burial will be in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor.
