Windsor Obituary: Janet Allen, 81

Condolences to her family and friends.

Janet E. (Neal) Allen, 81, of Windsor, beloved wife of Ernest "Bill" Allen for 60 years, passed away, Saturday, March 25, 2017.

Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Ralph and Gertrude Neal, she graduated from Bates College with a degree in Sociology in 1957. She was employed by the State of Maine for several years until moving to Windsor with her newly retired Air Force veteran husband, Bill, in 1972. She was then employed until retirement as food service supervisor for the Windsor Public Schools.

She was a former member of the Poquonock Community Church where she was active on numerous boards and commissions and currently a member of the First Church in Windsor. She was a member of the Windsor Jesters working on costumes and backstage for many years. She also enjoyed her membership in the Red Hat Society.

Besides her husband Bill, she leaves a son Neal W. Allen of East Hartford, a grandson Brady W. Allen of Willington; and her longtime aide and caregiver Vanessa Benard.

Her family will receive friends Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 10-11 am at the First Church in Windsor, 107 Palisado Avenue, Windsor followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. The Rev. Nicole Grant Yonkman will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
