Windsor Obituary: Joan Collins, 86

Condolences to her family and friends.

Joan Davies Collins, 86, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Captain Edmund M. Collins, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

She was born in 1931 in Scranton, PA to the late Rowland T. Davies Sr. and Margaret Fanning Davies Busch. Joan and Ed were married September 1950 in NJ and moved to Windsor in 1960. The family of eight joined St. Gabriel Church, where she was very active. Joan received training in ministering to the ill and home bound of the community.

She was a caring and gentle soul who selflessly gave of her time and talents to those in physical and spiritual need. She was also a member of Mother’s Circle, St. Gabriel Prayer Line and the Good Shepard Choir. She was also an early volunteer for the House of Bread in Hartford.

For years, she was employed by Sage-Allen in Windsor, the Wallpaper Department of G. Fox & Co in Hartford and Joe Cornfield’s Wallpaper Co. of West Hartford.

Joan is survived by two sons: Christopher F. and his wife Nancy of East Granby, Timothy R. and his wife Tracey D. of North Granby; four daughters: Margaret Collins and her husband Timothy Fitzgerald of Windsor, Martha Collins of Fairfax VA, Katherine Anderson of Windsor and Nora Collins of ME. She is survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn P. Collins of Cape Coral, FL. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren: Sarah Hunter and her husband Jason of ME, Melissa DeLois and her husband Nate of ME, Brenna Fitzgerald of MA, Elizabeth Leeds of VA, Matthew Anderson and his wife Miriam of TN, Mark Anderson of MA, Katrina Anderson and her husband Michael Wayne of Windsor, Tara Collins of MA, Patrick of West Hartford, Timothy and his wife, Emma of NC, Liam and Ryan, both of North Granby, Joshua Thomas and his wife Audrey of Kaneohe HI, Kevin Thomas of Ellington, Katherine Thomas of VA. Joan also leaves 15 great grandchildren: Caleb and Silas Hunter, Lucy DeLois, Christopher, Brandon and Shannon Collins, Emma and David Anderson, Ashley Anderson and Shayla Wayne, Aydelynn and Seamus Collins, Levi and Brian Thomas and Braylee Thomas; and her longtime caregiver Berthelina Arroyo. Joan was predeceased by her brother Rowland T. Davies II and his wife Jane of Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, brother-in-law Frank Collins of Cape Coral, FL, son-in-law David Anderson of Maine, grandson Christopher Collins and extended family members, Martin and Margaret Grant of East Kilbride, Scotland.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Masonicare for their compassionate care of Joan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 29 at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St Windsor, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery, Windsor. Her family will receive friends on Friday, July 28 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor.
