Windsor Obituary: Marion Dowd, 84

Condolences to her family and friends.

Marion Jean Zorro Dowd, of Windsor, beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother, passed away on March 2, 2017.

She was born on January 4, 1933 in Hartford to the late Joseph and Veronica (nee Saparnis) Zorro. She graduated from Windsor High School and was a member of St. Gabriel Church. Marion lived most of her life in Windsor and Hartford. She represented the town of Windsor one time at All Girls State in Washington D.C., sponsored by the American Legion.

She met her future husband at the Hartford Times where she was the Youth Editor. Her proudest work was at her own seamstress business, which she ran for many years in Windsor. She had an amazing talent for design, including designing and making wedding dresses for her daughter, Margaret, and daughter-in-law, Colleen.

She was a talented artist as well, working in drawing, paint or cross-stitch. She always strove for perfection and beauty in her creations. She was also an excellent gardener, arranging and caring for many different types of flowers, which blossomed in turn Spring, Summer and Fall. She was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family first.

She leaves behind her husband, John Francis Dowd of Windsor; her children, Timothy Dowd and wife Cynthia of Granby, Peter Dowd and wife Karen of North Granby, Margaret Christiana and husband Michael of Simsbury, and Daniel Dowd and wife Colleen of Windsor. She leaves behind one sister, Susan Zorro of Windsor. She was predeceased by her step-mother Jeannette Zorro, and sisters Nancy Emmons of Tampa Bay, Florida and Dorothy Waleka of Ipswich, Massachusetts. She leaves behind her grandchildren Daniel, Tyler, Stacey, Alexander, Sarah, Patrick, Connor, Christopher, Mackenzie, Keri, and Sean.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor with burial following in Elm Grove Cemetery, Windsor. At the kind request of the Dowd family, there will be no public calling hours.

Carmon Funeral Home of Windsor has been entrusted with the care of her arrangements.
