Windsor Obituary: Nancy Sargent, 84

Condolences to her family and friends.

Nancy Ellen Sargent, 84, of Fairfax, VA and formerly of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Merlin William Sargent passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at Sunrise at Fair Oaks, Fairfax, VA.

Born February 22, 1932 in Amsterdam, NY daughter of the late Garrett Gage, Sr. and Carol (Caine) Gage; predeceased by sister, Helen Gage Brock of FL and brother, Garrett Gage, Jr. of NY, and survived by half-sister, Mrs. Betty Osborn of NY.

She lived in Schenectady, NY before moving to Windsor in 1953. A Windsor resident for 63 years she moved to VA this year to be closer to her daughter and son. She was active in American Youth Hostels, supported the blind by organizing hikes and tandem bicycle rides for them. In memory of Merlin, her husband, and love of her life, she led the building of the braille trail at Northwest Park, Windsor. The accomplishment she was most proud of in her life was graduating from University of Hartford with a degree in special education.

She is survived by a son, Daniel M. Sargent of NC; a daughter, Marjorie Miller of VA; two grandchildren, Tiffany Dawn Miller and Christina Joy Miller; many nieces & nephews; and good friends Robert Vannelli, Mary Wright Wilson, and Delena Lilly.

Family and friends may gather Saturday, October 1, 2016, 10:30 AM, at Carmon's Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor followed by services at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor.
