Windsor Residents Can Apply For Heating Help

WINDSOR, CT — Windsor residents who need help paying their heating bills can now apply for assistance for the coming winter.

Applications opened Tuesday for the 2026-27 Connecticut Energy Assistance Program, which helps eligible households cover the cost of oil, natural gas, electricity, propane, kerosene and other heating sources.

Basic benefits range from $355 to $705, depending on household income, size and heating source. The money is generally paid directly to the household’s utility company or fuel supplier.

Households that heat with oil, kerosene or propane may qualify for additional fuel deliveries. Other assistance may include utility payment-matching programs, shutoff protection and repairs or replacement of heating equipment.

Income limits for the upcoming season are $48,714 for a one-person household, $63,703 for two people, $78,692 for three people and $93,681 for four people. Higher limits apply to larger households.

Households receiving certain benefits, including SNAP, Supplemental Security Income or Temporary Family Assistance, may also qualify.

Applicants should be prepared to provide proof of income, heating expenses and household information. The state says applications typically take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete.

Windsor Social Services can also help residents identify other local heating programs, including Operation Fuel and the Windsor Fuel Bank. The department can be reached at 860-285-1839.

Applications for the state program will be accepted through May 31, 2027. Assistance is not renewed automatically, so households must submit a new application each year.
