Windsor, South Windsor Jewish Congregations Merge

WINDSOR, CT – Two longtime Jewish houses of worship, Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor and Congregation Beth Ahm in Windsor, have merged. son Wasserman, President of Temple Beth Hillel, and Marcia Heneson, a member of Congregation Beth Ahm’s Executive Committee, signed and filed the legal documents earlier this week, according to a statement.

On June 24, the two congregations participated in a Torah Tiyul (walk) from the Windsor synagogue at 362 Palisado Avenue to Temple Beth Hillel at 20 Baker Lane in South Windsor. The act was a symbolic one of blending.

Congregation Beth Ahm has closed its doors at its building that his served the community for 68 years.

“During the past few months, members of both congregations have joined in numerous social and religious events, and we already are working together like longtime family,” said Rabbi Jeffrey Glickman, Temple Beth Hillel’s religious leader since 1996. “We look forward to spending the High Holy Days as one, and we welcome all interested Greater Hartford residents to join us.”

The High Holy Days begin at Rosh Hashana n Sunday evening, September 9 and continues through Yom Kippur, which ends at sunset on Wednesday, September 19. The services are mostly in English and the temple has invited the community to participate in readings. The public should contact Temple Beth Hillel in advance to request tickets for the services.
