Woman Killed In Windsor Crash Identified

A passenger in a car which collided with a garbage truck later died of her injuries, police said.

WINDSOR, CT — Police have identified a woman killed in a head-on collision between a car and a garbage truck Wednesday afternoon on Bloomfield Avenue.

Tatiana Vedentsova, 41, died of serious injuries sustained in the crash, which took place around 1:25 p.m. near Brewster Road.

Responding units found that the garbage truck and car had been involved in what appeared to be a head-on collision. The car was operated by Pavel Kovalchuk, 33, with Vedentsova as a passenger. Kovalchuk sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital, Capt. Thomas LePore said.

Both Kovalchuk and Vedentsova were visiting the United States on business, and reside in Moscow, Russia, LePore said.

The driver of the garbage truck, Ali Hassan Murphy, 36, sustained a minor injury and was taken to St. Francis Hospital. The truck is owned by Windsor Sanitation, LePore said.

The crash is still under investigation by the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team. Windsor police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Windsor Police Department at 860-688-5273, ext. 546.
