WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A man is accused of pepper-spraying another customer at Dunkin’ in Windsor Locks on Saturday night, according to police.
Police responded around 7:45 p.m. on May 2 to a report of a disturbance at the Dunkin’ at 94 Main St.
Arriving officers saw a large gathering of employees and customers outside the business, with many “suffering from the respiratory effects of pepper spray,” according to police.
Police said the investigation found that an argument had occurred between two customers, during which 20-year-old Hayden St. Martin “deployed O.C. spray against another male patron as he was attempting to exit the store.”
“Witness statements and store surveillance footage confirmed that while there had been a prior disagreement regarding a parking issue between staff and a couple, that matter had been resolved,” police wrote in a news release. “According to reports, St. Martin, a local resident frequently seen interacting with officers in town, intervened as the couple was leaving, spraying the victim on the left side of his face. The victim was later located at a neighboring Subway, where he was treated by EMS for coughing and facial irritation.”
The Windsor Locks Fire Department responded to the scene to ventilate the business before people could re-enter, according to police.
Police said St. Martin, who was found in possession of the O.C. spray and two pocket knives, was taken into custody without incident.
St. Martin was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace, according to police.
