WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A key Connecticut River crossing in Windsor Locks will close for a full weekend while crews complete work tied to an Amtrak railroad project.
The Route 140 Bridge Street bridge over the Connecticut River will be fully closed to traffic from 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, until about 4 p.m. Monday, June 1, according to information posted Thursday morning by Windsor Locks Public Works.
Traffic will be detoured onto Route 159, then Interstate 91, and back onto Route 140. Detour signs and changeable message boards will be used to guide drivers through the area.
Local resident access will be maintained from Route 159, officials said.
The closure is needed so crews can install new signal gates as part of the Amtrak railroad project.
The $37.1 million project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 23, 2027, according to the announcement.
