WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Several road and drainage projects are underway in Windsor Locks this construction season, with work planned or ongoing on South Street, Briarcliff Drive, Druid Street and other local roads, according to Windsor Locks Public Works.
The town said the work includes road repairs, drainage improvements, manhole adjustments and pedestrian upgrades.
On South Street, town highway crews are repairing catch basins and replacing catch basin tops between South Center Street and Green Manor Terrace, according to Public Works.
Contractors are expected to mill and pave that section beginning the week of June 22. After paving, sidewalks and curb ramps will be replaced and upgraded to meet current ADA accessibility standards, the town said.
Public Works said the South Street project was approved by voters as part of the fiscal year 2021 Capital Improvement Plan.
Drainage work is also underway on Briarcliff Drive and Druid Street, according to the town.
Spazzarini Construction Co. LLC is performing the work, which Public Works said builds on drainage improvements completed last year on Briarcliff Drive, Sutton Drive and Sherwin Lane.
The project also includes roadway reclamation, grading and paving on Briarcliff Drive and Druid Street, according to the town.
Windsor Locks’ 2026 budget materials list “Druid, Briarcliff & Cortland” under roadway infrastructure, with a requested project amount of $358,987.
Public Works said contractors are also resetting manholes at several locations around town, mostly on South Street, Webb Street and Second Street, to complete roadway reconstruction projects that began last year.
The town said contractors are also addressing several nuisance manholes in other locations while they are mobilized in Windsor Locks.
The town also noted a separate Connecticut Department of Transportation project on South Main Street.
According to CTDOT, the South Main Street/Route 159 work includes utility relocation tied to Hartford Line rail improvements. The state said the project also includes sidewalk and curb improvements, relocation of an existing traffic signal and roadway safety improvements.
CTDOT lists the project at an estimated $5 million, funded entirely by the state. Construction is expected to begin in winter 2026, depending on funding, rights-of-way and permits, according to CTDOT.
Public Works asked drivers to slow down, stay alert and follow posted signs and traffic controls near active work zones.
