EAST WINDSOR, CT — Two East Windsor retailers failed recent tobacco and vape sales compliance checks, police said.
The East Windsor Police Department said it partnered with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to conduct compliance checks at local retailers on May 22 and June 15.
Seventeen retailers were checked, and 15 were found to be in compliance with state laws barring the sale of tobacco and vaping products to people under 21, police said. Two retailers failed the checks, and the clerks involved were issued citations, according to the department.
Deputy Chief Benjamin Murphy said the department was involved in the recent checks, but that “several of these businesses necessitated further investigation.”
“As they are on-going, active, investigations — we will not comment on them at this time,” Murphy said in an email.
Police said youth vaping and tobacco use remain concerns in the community and that the department is working with East Windsor’s Local Prevention Council on prevention, education and awareness efforts.
