WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Delta Air Lines said a contractor change at Bradley International Airport does not mean about 100 workers are losing their jobs, after a layoff notice was filed with the state.
G2 Secure Staffing, LLC told the Connecticut Department of Labor in a June 19 WARN notice that it will no longer provide ground-handling support for Delta at Bradley after its current contract expires.
The notice said about 100 full- and part-time jobs tied to that work are expected to be eliminated Aug. 19. G2 said the cuts are expected to be permanent.
Delta said the filing is connected to a contractor switch, not a confirmed loss of jobs.
“Delta will shift some of its BDL airport services handled by G2 to HHS in August. We are partnering with both organizations to maintain a seamless customer and employee experience. While the partner overseeing this work will change, G2 employees in BDL have been given the opportunity to join the HHS team,” Delta said in a statement to Patch.
Delta said the WARN notice was filed because the law requires it, but said the filing “is not a confirmation of lost jobs.”
G2 workers were told about the change and offered jobs with HHS, according to Delta.
Delta said G2 handles some airport work at Bradley, including baggage handling on the ramp, aircraft cleaning and janitorial services.
The change does not affect more than 60 Delta employees at Bradley who work in the lobby, ticketing area and at arrival and departure gates, according to Delta.
The G2 notice said the affected workers are not union members.
Most of the jobs listed in the notice are ramp agent positions. The notice lists 64 ramp agents, 12 wheelchair agents, nine ramp leads, four operations managers, four operations agents, four cabin service agents, one training officer, one driver/operator and one janitor.
The WARN Act generally requires companies to give advance notice of certain large layoffs or closures.
