Windsor Locks Public Works reminded residents about the event this week. Residents of East Granby, Windsor and the other participating MDC communities may also attend.

What You Can Bring

The town's disposal guide lists gasoline, antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, paint thinners, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, household cleaners and aerosol cans among commonly accepted materials.

Alkaline, lithium and rechargeable batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and mercury thermometers, thermostats and switches are also accepted.

The MDC's 2026 information packet says both latex and oil-based paints are accepted in containers holding five gallons or less.

Before You Head Over

Bring identification showing residency. The program is open to residents of Bloomfield, East Granby, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor and Windsor Locks.

Keep products in their original containers whenever possible, or label containers with their contents. Do not mix products. The MDC asks residents to put containers in disposable boxes or bins in the trunk and remain in their vehicles while workers remove the materials.

Smoke detectors are not accepted. Other excluded items include ammunition, electronics, medications, needles and syringes. Residents should review the information packet before loading their vehicles.

Hazardous household materials should not go in regular trash or down drains, the town says. Questions about accepted items can be directed to the MDC's hazardous waste hotline at 860-278-3809.
