Brown is charged in connection with the shooting death Tuesday morning of Leroy Jefferson, 35, just outside the Bradley House Apartments at 131 Old County Road. According to police, Barnes shot Jefferson several times, then unsuccessfully attempted to shoot Jefferson's female companion, as his handgun misfired.

Barnes reportedly has a child with the woman, but she was currently involved in a relationship with Jefferson, according to police.
