Busy April Vacation Stretch Ahead At Bradley Airport

More than 139,000 passengers are expected at Bradley during the April vacation stretch, with the busiest times early in the day.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — Bradley International Airport is preparing for a busy April vacation travel period, with more than 139,000 passengers expected to depart between April 8 and April 19, according to the Connecticut Airport Authority.

Airport officials said travelers should plan ahead and arrive early, especially during the airport’s busiest windows. Those peak periods are typically between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., when many flights leave within a short span, and again in the mid to late afternoon.

“We look forward to welcoming thousands of passengers at Bradley International Airport over the next few weeks,” Michael W. Shea, executive director and CEO of the Connecticut Airport Authority, said in a statement. “This is also our first spring break where passengers will get to experience all of our recently completed terminal enhancements — designed to bring ease and more convenience for those departing and arriving from the airport.”

Passengers are being urged to arrive at least 90 minutes before their flight to allow time for check-in and security screening. Officials also said parking could be tight at times because of increased passenger volume.

Travelers can check parking availability before arriving at the airport. Bradley said drivers should follow signs and allow extra time to park, with alternate parking options available on Schoephoester Road or along Routes 20 and 75 if needed.

Airport officials also reminded travelers to pack carefully and make sure both carry-on bags and checked luggage comply with Transportation Security Administration rules. Families traveling with children may also notice newer amenities, including two nursing rooms, family restrooms throughout the terminal, and water bottle refill stations.

Bradley now offers nonstop service to more than 40 destinations on nine passenger airlines. The airport also recently completed terminal upgrades aimed at making check-in, security screening, baggage claim access, rental car pickup, ground transportation, garage navigation and lounge access easier for travelers.

The Connecticut Airport Authority said Bradley remains the state’s largest airport and the second largest in New England. The airport, which is self-funded, contributes nearly $3.6 billion to the regional economy.
