Ashland University, Ashland OH

• Michael Gentile of Windsor Locks received a Bachelor of Science degree during Ashland University's commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 6. Gentile majored in Criminal Justice, and is a 2013 graduate of Windsor Locks High School.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

• The Assumption College Student Government Association (SGA) has announced that Stephanie Cota, of Broad Brook, has been elected Senator and will serve during the 2017-18 academic year. The Student Government Association is the governing student body on campus, representing all undergraduate students. The purpose of SGA is to advocate for students and give voice to their opinions to enhance students' experience and encourage their participation in extra-curricular activities. Their work is guided by a constitution and by-laws. Students elected to a leadership position in SGA contribute to the student life climate of the campus community and demonstrate honor, excellence and Greyhound pride.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• A cohort of high-achieving psychology students from Eastern Connecticut State University was inducted into Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, on April 24. Among the inductees was Melanie Byrne of Broad Brook, who majors in Psychology. Psi Chi's mission is to encourage excellence in scholarship and to foster the advancement of psychological science. Eastern students who are inducted into Psi Chi must declare a major or minor in psychology, have at least 12 credits of coursework in psychology and attain a 3.5 GPA in psychology and a 3.0 GPA overall.
• The Third Annual CREATE Conference at Eastern Connecticut State University took place on April 21. CREATE stands for "Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern," and is the University's premier conference showcasing student research and creative activity. The one-day conference featured more than 300 Eastern undergraduates who presented talks, professional posters, live music, dance performances, art and photography exhibits, documentary films and panel discussions.
  Local participants were Danielle Bolin of Windsor Locks, who majors in Social Work and presented a poster titled "Family Structure and Substance Usage"; Ramis Saleem of East Windsor, who majors in Biochemistry and presented a poster titled "Characterization of Medicago Truncatula Mutants Defective in Symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation"; and Melody Slater of Broad Brook, who majors in Biology and presented a poster titled "Population Genetic Analysis of the Declining North American Black Tern, Chlidonias Niger Surinamensis."

Elmira College, Elmira NY

• Elmira College released its Dean's List for Academic Achievement for the winter 2017 term. The Dean's List recognizes students that have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Students from Broad Brook named were Madison Carolus and Makinsey Carolus.

Siena College, Loudonville NY

• Elena Covill, a mathematics, computer science major from Broad Brook, was recognized for her outstanding academic achievement with The Fr. Laurence Rainville Award and the Mathematics B.S. Major Field Award.
