Campus Notes - Windsor Locks and East Windsor College Students

WINDSOR LOCKS-EAST WINDSOR, CT — College students from Windsor Locks and East Windsor recently achieved these notable accomplishments, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• Four Eastern Connecticut State University students swept the college category of the 13th annual eesmarts Student Contest this past June after writing four kid-friendly plays about energy efficiency and environmentalism. Among the four Eastern victors was Kate Cobb of Windsor Locks, who won second place. Cobb majors in Communication. The eesmarts Student Contest is a program of Energize Connecticut that encourages students to showcase their knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainability. Over 1,200 Connecticut students in grades K-12 and college competed in this year's contest. Forty-three finalists were recognized at the June award ceremony at the State Capitol.

Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester NY

• Radha Mendapra of Windsor Locks graduated from RIT with a BS in information technology. Some 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students received their degrees during RIT's 132nd commencement celebration in May.

Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven CT

• Windsor Locks resident Katarzyna Wujec recently graduated from SCSU.

University of Hartford, West Hartford CT

• Kristin Miller of Broad Brook is one of 15 physical therapy doctoral candidates at the University of Hartford who helped pioneer a unique exercise program for children with disabilities at Shriners Hospitals-Springfield in Massachusetts. The program, know as BFit is a power-based exercise program provided by Miller, UHart Professor of Physical Therapy Mary Gannotti, classmates, and clinicians from Shriners.

University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI

• At the University of Rhode Island's 131st Commencement on Saturday and Sunday, May 20-21, 2017, about 2,600 undergraduate and 650 graduate students became the University's newest alumni. Local students who graduated are Nicholas Cota of Broad Brook, Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering; Christian Flynn Librizzi of Broad Brook, Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology Magna Cum Laude; and Taylor Gorzkowski of Windsor Locks, Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology. Students who received the honor summa cum laude graduated with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.7; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of at least 3.50; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of at least 3.3.
