WINDSOR LOCKS-EAST WINDSOR, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from Windsor Locks and East Windsor, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • The Assumption College Office of Campus Ministry has announced that Thomas Angell, of Broad Brook, spent spring break volunteering on one of the College's SEND Service Immersion Trips. Angell traveled to Baltimore. In Baltimore, MD, students spent the week rehabbing houses in West Baltimore neighborhoods of the city with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. Students also had the opportunity to serve at the Catholic Charities organization, Jenkins Community Center-which, according to the website, is Maryland's first senior community to offer options to low and moderate income individuals for independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, and medical day care. In addition to the volunteer aspects of the trip, students learned about Catholic Social teaching from Catholic Charities organizations and visited many cultural destinations in Baltimore.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • A group of students from Eastern Connecticut State University recently participated in a global field course (GFC) to conduct research in the Mojave and Great Basin Deserts. The students were accompanied by Assistant Biology Professors W. Brett Mattingly and Matthew Graham. Ramis Saleem of East Windsor was one of the students who attended. Saleem's major is Biochemistry.

Elmira College, Elmira NY

  • Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, recently inducted 35 new student members into the Elmira College circle, or chapter. Those inducted included Madison Carolus and Makinsey Carolus of Broad Brook. The Society recognizes achievement in scholarship; athletics; campus or community service, social and religious activities, and campus government; journalism, speech and the mass media; and the creative and performing arts. Emphasis is placed on the development of the whole person, both as a member of the college community and as a contribution to a better society.

Nichols College, Dudley MA

  • Nichols College has recognized 469 students, including two from Broad Brook, who achieved Dean's List status for their academic work during the fall 2016 semester. Local honorees are Miles Meacham and Michael Welti. The Nichols College Dean's List recognizes students who have achieved high grades during a single semester. In order to be included in the Dean's List, a student must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2 for at least 12 credit-hours and receive no grade below a C+ during the semester.
