Award-winning video
Eastern Connecticut State University's Center for Early Childhood Education (CECE) was recently notified that they have been awarded a bronze "Telly" Award for their video, "Fun Mud Day," featuring the work of Eastern faculty, staff and students. The video was submitted in the Health and Fitness category, and highlights an event that took place at the Child and Family Development Resource Center (CFDRC) this past May.
The event was organized by Kinesiology and Physical Education Professor Darren Robert and a group of his physical education students. It documents CFDRC toddlers, preschoolers and teachers attempting to maneuver a variety of wet and muddy obstacles designed to build strength, develop gross motor skills, and focus on competence and confidence.
Margaret Sayers of Windsor Locks was one of the students who participated in the video. Sayers's major is Physical Education.
Mathematics Honor Society
A cohort of gifted mathematics students at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) national honor society this April. Among the inductees was Wesley Velazquez of Broad Brook, who majors in Computer Science and Mathematics.
KME is a specialized honor society in Mathematics. It was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. Members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship and have professional merit, and have attained academic distinction.
ECSU Earth Science awards
A number of Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently honored at the Environmental Earth Science Department's annual awards ceremony. Awards were bestowed upon students who excelled in research or academic excellence.
Kevin Veilleux of East Windsor won the Geomorphology Research Recognition.
According to Department of Environmental Earth Science Chair Peter Drzewiecki, "The Environmental Earth Science Department's year-end celebration allows students, faculty and alumni to get together and recognize student and departmental accomplishments throughout the year, as well as enjoy some time together before plunging into final projects and examinations. This year, Eastern EES alum Lindsey Belliveau spoke to the students about her experiences as a student major in our department and regarding her current experience in graduate school."
O'Connor Davies Scholarship
Melody Alford of Broad Brook was presented with the O'Connor Davies Scholarship at the annual Accounting Banquet at Eastern Connecticut State University on April 26. The Accounting Program hosted the ceremony which is held each year to recognize and present scholarships to accounting students for their outstanding academic achievements.
