Downloadable Book on Windsor Locks History Published
The book contains about 400 old photos and about 150 old newspaper articles about Windsor Locks.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT — A former Windsor Locks resident and unofficial town historian has compiled hundreds of old photographs and newspaper articles into a downloadable book of local history.
Mel Montemerlo, who is now retired and lives in Virginia, is making the 430-page book available in PDF form at no charge to anyone wishing to download it.
"I am distributing it free. It is my gift to the town. Please feel free to distribute it to anyone you think might enjoy a copy," Montemerlo said.

The compilation originated as a series of articles Montemerlo posted on two Facebook web pages for people from Windsor Locks. He eventually had articles published on Windsor Locks-East Windsor Patch and in the Windsor Locks Journal.
There are 38 chapters in the book, "which can be read in any order," Montemerlo said, adding, "I tried to write it in an informal, easy to read, conversational style, and I tried to not use any fancy words. I hope folks find it enjoyable."

Montemerlo said he plans to have 100 copies printed and bound, and sell them for what it will cost for printing and binding.
"I am hoping I can get a bound, mailed copy done for about $25," he said. "I wanted to do it for less, but its size made that impossible. I will not make a cent on this."
Montemerlo said he worked with Jim Roche of the Windsor Locks Historical Society to finalize the book, and plans to turn over the book to the society.
