DUI Crash Takes Out Pole, Closes Road in East Windsor
The road is expected to remain closed until early afternoon, according to police.
EAST WINDSOR, CT — A single-car crash on Winkler Road early Tuesday morning brought down a utility pole and wires, closing the roadway and landing the operator in jail on a DUI charge.
The car had been traveling west on Winkler Road around 12:45 a.m. when it struck and snapped the pole, which landed across the roadway with an attached transformer and electrical wires, blocking both lanes of traffic, police said.
The operator, who has not yet been identified, was charged with operating under the influence, using a cell phone while driving and failure to drive right.

No injuries were reported, police said.
More than a half-dozen homes on Winkler Road lost power due to the crash, and crews from Eversource and Frontier arrived to replace the pole and replace electricity, according to police.

Winkler Road is closed at its intersections with Newberry and Wells roads, and police estimate it will remain closed through the morning into early afternoon.
