East Windsor Casino Project To Create 5,000 Jobs

Tribal Winds, a new gaming and entertainment facility, is expected to create thousands of jobs throughout the area.

EAST WINDSOR, CT - MMCT Venture, a joint effort between the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot Tribes, has announced that is rebranding as Tribal Winds Casino, which is coming to East Windsor and is expected to create 5,000 jobs. According to a statement from MMCT, that number is from the start of construction through the grand opening, with at least 2,000 jobs for the building trades during construction and 2,000 permanent jobs at the facility once it’s operational. The casino is also expected to support 1,000 indirect jobs at small business vendors.

The tribes also launched a new website for the facility, www.tribalwinds.com and is expected to be operating in 18-24 months from now.

“Tribal Winds Casino will be a great addition to the entertainment landscape of Connecticut’s Capitol Region,” Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council Chairman Rodney Butler said in a statement. “Building on the iconic brands of our two flagship properties, Tribal Winds will be a world class gaming and entertainment facility that combines our shared past with the proud local character of East Windsor. This shovel ready facility will create jobs and bring in new revenue for the state the minute we break ground.”

The tribes also said they have specific hiring goals for area towns, including 325 jobs for Hartford residents, 150 jobs for East Hartford residents, and 175 jobs for Windsor Locks/East Windsor and other surrounding towns.

“We are ready to roll, to start construction and begin creating jobs and revenue,” said Mohegan Tribal Council Chairman, Kevin Brown. “It’s taken a lot of time, effort and resources to get this this point. We’re excited to work with our partners in state government on the next phase of this exciting development.”

The casino is expected to generate $8.5 million in tax revenues for East Windsor once it is operational.
