East Windsor Drill To Close Street, Boat Ramp

The training will bring road closures, detours and a full-day boat ramp closure in Broad Brook.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — A weekend fire training event in Broad Brook is expected to affect traffic, road access and the Broad Brook Pond boat ramp on April 25 and 26, according to the Broad Brook Fire Department.

The department said it will host a large water shuttle class called “Got Big Water,” a training program designed for fire departments that rely on moving water into areas without hydrants. Fire officials said departments from around Connecticut are expected to take part.

On Saturday, April 25, the section of Depot Street between Main Street and Emily Road is scheduled to close from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for firefighter safety. The Broad Brook Pond boat ramp will also be closed during that afternoon period.

On Sunday, April 26, that same stretch of Depot Street is scheduled to be closed for the entire day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The boat ramp will also be closed all day.

The department said local traffic will still be allowed for residents who live in the affected section during some closures. Westbound traffic on Saturday is expected to be detoured from Emily Road to Highland Avenue and back to Main Street.

Officials also said filter beds near Mill Street and Church Street could see limited access Sunday afternoon between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Traffic control personnel and fire police are expected to be at affected intersections, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.

In a social media update, the department said an earlier bulletin had not been fully updated before it was first posted. Officials asked residents to share the corrected information and use alternate routes during the training.

The department said the drill is important because many parts of town do not have hydrants that supply enough water for firefighting. Questions can be directed to bbfdchiefs@bbfd.org
