EAST WINDSOR, CT — The owners of an East Windsor nursing home have been hit with a $10,000 fine by the Connecticut Department of Public Health for failing to protect their residents and staff after admitting a registered sex offender from Massachusetts as a patient. The man is accused of attempting to sexually assault a nurse on May 19, according to the CT Mirror.

Fresh River Healthcare on Route 5 was assessed the fine after an investigation into the incident, during which staff members heard a scream coming from the room of Miguel Lopez, 50. A nurse was found in the doorway with her blouse partially ripped off and her bra exposed, the CT Mirror reported.

In June, Lopez was charged with attempted first-degree sexual assault, third-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint. He is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
