East Windsor Officials Explore Possibility of Bringing Casino to Town

Town leaders are researching the pros and cons of the idea.

As state legislators consider the possibility of adding a new casino along the I-91 corridor, East Windsor officials are exploring the pros and cons of bringing a casino to town.

East Windsor First Selectman Denise Menard told NBC Connecticut that the town has enough room off I-91 to accommodate a casino with an old movie theater, a former Wal-Mart and an empty banquet hall as possible designations.

However, she believes residents are split 50-50 on the idea.

The General Assembly’s Planning Committee has approved a proposal that would allow the state’s two Native American tribes with casinos to operate as many as three more facilities in Connecticut but included provisions that would leave the ultimate decision in the hands of the residents if they want a casino in their town or city, according to NBC.
