Election 2021: Denise Menard For East Windsor Board Of Education

EAST WINDSOR, CT — Democrat Denise Menard, 70, is running for the East Windsor Board of Education.

Occupation: Retired, Former East Longmeadow Town Manager

Family:Husband David, son Jason, daughter Dawn, stepsons Matthew and Peter, 12 grandchildren

Experience: Current Housing Authority Commissioner, former 1st Selectman, Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Planning and Zoning, Water Pollution Control Authority, and Elderly Commission

Family in government: No

The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

(as it relates to education) the best education possible for all our children while keeping in mind the Board of Education's responsibilities to all taxpayers.

I intend to work cooperatively with the school's new Superintendent to find solutions to the school's low test scores and improve communication with all and collaboration with other Town agencies and work toward more transparency regarding the school's finances.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

I don't see many critical differences with other candidates. I believe we are all asking to join the Board of Ed because we love our community and want the best possible education for our children while being mindful that we need to be fiscally responsible.

Accomplishments:

I recently retired as East Longmeadow's Town Manager and worked very closely with Superintendent Smith on matters that affected both the Town and schools. We communicated and problem-solved on many levels. Also, as East Windsor's First Selectman for 8 years, currently a Housing Authority Commissioner and many years on the Board of Finance, Planning and Zoning and other boards, and I have multi-faceted knowledge of East Windsor.

Other issues:

With a new administration and new members on the Board of Education . . . new beginnings with a sense of cooperation will help us attain good educations for our most precious of life's gifts and our children.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

I have lived in East Windsor for 40+ years and currently with my husband David. My children were raised here and graduated from East Windsor High School.
