Open Cockpit Sunday

The New England Air Museum’s next Open Cockpit Day has been scheduled for Sunday, October 9.  On that day, all visitors to the Museum will have the opportunity to climb into the cockpits of twelve vintage aircraft, two static flight simulators and one-fully operational flight simulator.  The aircraft included are the vintage DC-3 airliner, several military helicopters, WWII fighters, jet planes and more.

For the first in more than twenty years, the WWII era Grumman FM-2 Wildcat will be included in the aircraft to be open for visitor entry. The Museum’s Wildcat saw service aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Mission Bay in WWII principally for air cover & submarine surveillance. Additionally, there will be a special hands-on craft activity for children.  A food vendor will be on site for most of the day.  Also present at the event will be representatives from the Connecticut Child Identification Program (CT CHIP). They will create child identification kits of children ages 18 & under including fingerprints, DNA swabs, tooth prints and DVD video identification and photos.  This is offered as a free service and is sponsored by the Connecticut Freemasons.
