Identities Revealed of 2 Men Killed in East Windsor Plane Crash

Residents of Ellington and Vernon died in the crash near an East Windsor airport Tuesday.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — Authorities have identified the two men killed in an early evening plane crash Tuesday.

The family of Robert Plourde, 61, who is said to have been piloting his own plane which crashed into trees near Skylark Airport, released the following statement:

"Bob was a loving husband and a tremendous father who had an affinity for flying. Our family is incredibly appreciative of the overwhelming support and outpouring of love from the community during this difficult time. At this time, we ask that the media respects our privacy while the investigation proceeds."

Jacqueline (Plourde) Hellyar, who stated she is Bob Plourde's aunt, posted the following message on her Facebook page Wednesday morning:

An obituary for Robert Plourde posted on the Carmon Community Funeral Homes web site indicates "he worked at many technology companies as a sales executive, and most recently was involved with an aerial video and photography agency."

Kevin Hayes, a friend and neighbor, told Patch, "Very sad news. Bob was a great guy and fun to be around. All of our thoughts are with his family."

Plourde is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (O'Brien) Plourde, four children, four grandchildren, four brothers and a sister.

A funeral service was held Saturday at Ellington Congregational Church.

A passenger in the plane, George Janssen, 51, of Vernon, was also killed in the crash.

Janssen, an engineer at Pratt & Whitney, took up flying in his teenage years near his childhood home in Florida, according to his obituary.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, two children and two sisters.

Memorial services for Janssen will be held at a later date.
