Fire Hits East Windsor Condo

Firefighters extinguished flames on the first floor and in the basement of a Folkstone Road condo Wednesday.

EAST WINDSOR, CT — A fire broke out in a Broad Brook condo Wednesday afternoon, sending smoke into three adjoining units, according to Broad Brook Fire Chief Gerald Bancroft. No injuries were reported.

The fire at 25 Folkstone Road was reported at 3:55 p.m. Oct. 7. Firefighters were dispatched a minute later, and the first engine arrived within five minutes, Bancroft said in a press release.

Crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floor of a two-story condo. Three attached units also had moderate to heavy smoke.

Firefighters knocked down the main body of fire on the first floor within five minutes of arriving. They then found and extinguished additional fire in the basement.

Searches of the burning condo and neighboring units found no one inside. Crews checked the adjoining condos and found no fire spread, Bancroft said.

All three neighboring units were ventilated to clear smoke and high carbon monoxide levels. The fire was under control 31 minutes after the first crews arrived, though firefighters continued checking for hidden fire and extinguishing hot spots.

“No injuries were reported to any civilians, animals or fire personnel,” Bancroft said.

Local and state fire marshals and East Windsor police detectives are investigating. The cause had not been determined, according to the release. Eversource crews disconnected gas and electric service.

Warehouse Point, South Windsor, Enfield, Hazardville, Ellington and Somers fire departments assisted, along with East Windsor Ambulance. Windsor Locks and Suffield firefighters covered East Windsor while crews worked at the scene.
