Last night as fire departments were extinguishing the livestock barn fire on Niederwerfer Road, a mama cow gave birth to a calf. East Windsor medics provided oxygen to the calf as the air quality in the area was poor. A glimmer of hope in what was a tragic evening for the farm community.

The fire was already well-involved before emergency units arrived, according to the Broad Brook Fire Department’s Facebook page. The first engine was delayed after it was redirected to come in from a different location because of a downed powerline that was believed to still having power to it, according to the department.

Due to the heat of the fire there was a possible exposure problem and that was handled by the first arriving Engine Tank.

One firefighter was transported for an evaluation and two firefighters and one civilian were evaluated at the scene and refused transport, according to the Facebook post.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help raise funds to rebuild the farm. It raised more than $2,000 in 11 hours after being created.
