First Baby Born on National 529 Day Awarded $1,529 CHET Account

National 529 Day calls attention to the importance of starting early to save for college.

Emily Bjornberg, Director of Financial Literacy, representing State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier, presents a $1,529 contribution to a CHET 529 College savings account to the Pothugunta family, of East Windsor, who are the proud parents of the first baby born on 5/29 at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford.

St. Francis had the first birth today among participating hospitals in the State of Connecticut. The 529 Day promotion calls attention to the importance of starting early to save for college. Treasurer Nappier is the Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), Connecticut’s only state-sponsored 529 college savings plan.
