Fred Astaire South Windsor Celebrates Success at New England Regional Championships

Fred Astaire South Windsor brought their A game to the New England Regional Fred Astaire 32nd Tri-Star Championships

Fred Astaire South Windsor brought their A game to the New England Regional Fred Astaire 32nd Tri-Star Championships, held at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino, the week of November 14, 2015.

In the single dances, which are performed throughout the day, Fred Astaire South Windsor students earned an impressive number of first places; and in the championships rounds we congratulate our newcomer student Caleigh Petrillo for taking First Place in Social Bronze Closed Smooth 3-Dance Championship, and Shirley Jakobowski for taking Third Place in Silver Closed Rhythm and First Place in Advanced Bronze Closed Smooth 3 - Dance Championship. Fred Astaire Southbury students seem to agree that competing in ballroom dancing ensures a great time as well as a tremendous feeling of accomplishment. “It’s extremely fulfilling for us to see people join our dance studio as social dancers and months later take to the dance floor in beautiful ballroom gowns, competing against the whole region,” said co-directors Christian Lange and Paulo Jorge.

Fred Astaire South Windsor student, Shirley Jakobowski, also took 3rd place among the top female competitor students, a title received by the quantity of single dances combined with the scores of each dance.

We are equally proud of our professionals, Ivana Strancaric and Vladimir Serbulenco who made into the finals, and took 4th place in Closed American Rhythm Bronze & Silver Division and 5th place in Closed American Smooth Bronze & Silver Division.

One of the most thrilling moments of the competition occurred when our own studio co-director Christian Lange and dance partner Nevena Jovanovic won the New England Regional Champions in Open American Smooth. Championships usually consist of 20 or more competitive couples.

Over 20 Fred Astaire Dance Studios participated in the event, challenging each other on the ballroom floor with their best steps. The competition is a very positive experience where students meet, mingle and compete with other other, enhancing their accomplishments and confidence as dancers. Participating in these competitions events gives every student and student/teacher team the opportunity to progress more rapidly in their dance endeavors and have fun along the way.

We’d like to extend a special thank you to all of our friends and students who took the effort to come and cheer us all on.
