Fugitive Busted In Windsor Locks On Drug, Gun Charges

A convicted felon was caught at a Windsor Locks motel Monday.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT - A man who police said has an "extensive criminal history revolving around the illegal drug trade and weapons possession" was arrested on a warrant Monday. Joel Griffiths, 43, of no certain address, was charged with criminal impersonation, possession of a firearm with a high-capacity magazine by a convicted felon, identity theft, criminal impersonation, and two counts of forgery.

He was also charged with three separate cases of failure to appear in court in drug and gun-related cases. He was held on $250,000 bond and appeared in court earlier today.

Police said they receive information about Griffiths staying at the Windsor Locks Quality Inn after being pursued by bail enforcers for the last month.

Police caught Griffiths at the motel. Investigation found that he was in possession of a gun with a loaded magazine, several cell phones, and thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry. He also attempted to conceal his identity to avoid detection by law enforcement.
